Photo Projects
After taking my first photography class in high school, I couldn’t imagine pursuing anything that wasn’t in some way artistic. I especially loved the physicality involved in photography, the active movement and personal connections that the medium requires appealed to me more than a stationary job ever could. But most of all, I felt the fire that photos can ignite in people, and I knew that I wanted to create work that inspires people to act the way that only photography can.
I am proficient with both analog and digital cameras. I originally learned how to shoot photos on analog cameras, which has led to gaining experience with safely developing film and working in the darkroom. For digital, I use Canon cameras, and am experienced with using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom for editing. Finally, between formal education in school and personal projects, I have practice with photography for portraits, events, and journalism.
Trans Day of Visibility
Photo Essay
This was my final project for photojournalism. We had to create a photo essay, a collection of images that work together to tell a story. I chose to cover the 2023 Trans Day of Visibility at SUNY New Paltz, an event that came on the heels of many horrific Gender Affirming Care bans. I wanted to tell a story of all of us with this essay: our bravery and tenacity, our hopes and fears, and above all, our love for each other.
